Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue
We will not consider families for adoption until the application process has been completed. You can begin the process by completing the adoption application. Since dogs are fostered in our private homes throughout Illinois, Indiana, St. Louis, and Wisconsin it is not possible to simply "come and meet them." We do not allow potential adopters to meet dogs until they have been approved to adopt. Our rescue dogs are our number one priority; therefore, we do not make exceptions to our policies. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant at any phase in the adoption application process.
-
If you qualify based on the age and location (Illinois, Indiana, and parts of the surrounding states) requirements, click on the Adoption Application link to fill out and adoption application. Adoption applications are available in Word or PDF formats.
Please give us 2 weeks to review and process the application. Calling and emailing will only delay your application. To ensure your application is processed on time, contact your personal references to let them know we will be calling and to please return our call in a timely fashion. You should also contact your veterinary reference and give them permission to release information about your pets’ health history/records to our rescue representative.
-
Complete the application process by emailing your completed Adoption Application to foreverfriendsgdri@gmail.com and paying the $25 application fee via PayPal using the following button:
You can also pay by check. Please make checks payable to Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue, Inc. and mail them to P.O. Box 20125, Indianapolis, IN 46220. Please make sure to include a note indicating that the check goes with your application (include your name) so that they can be matched up. Application fees are applied to the final adoption fee amount.
Applications will not be processed until the application fee has been paid.
-
Your references will be contacted and interviewed. References include your vet and any family members or friends that you list.
-
Once your application and references have been approved, you will be contacted to schedule your home check. An FFGDR volunteer will contact you to discuss a date and time that is mutually agreeable. We prefer that all members of the household be present for the home check. The volunteer must have access to all rooms of the home including the garage, basement, and any out buildings. If access to any of these areas is denied, the application will be automatically denied.
-
Please be aware that the volunteer may also bring one of their own dogs with them to see how any current dogs in the home interact with them.
-
Once the application and home check have been approved, you will receive a call from the Adoption Coordinator for a phone interview to talk about any additional question and concerns and potentially discuss a dog or two. The Adoption Coordinator will talk with you about each dog and any health or obedience issues they may have, their background, etc. You will decide which dog is best for your home and the Adoption Coordinator will give you the contact information for that dog’s foster home.
-
You are now free to contact the foster home and talk to the foster parents more in depth about the dog. You can set up a time to meet the dog (if located in your area) or to adopt the dog if you are ready to proceed. Our adoption fees are as follows:
- Up to 5 years of age - $400 ($375 @ time of adoption)
- 6-9 years of age - $300 ($275 @ time of adoption)
- 9 years of age and up - negotiable
Note: Adopters will be refunded $50 of their adoption fee once the training requirement has been fulfilled and a training certificate signed by a certified trainer or behaviorist is received.
